The smartphone is available in two variants — 2GB RAM + 16GB storage, and 3GB RAM + 32GB storage — also may be purchased both online and offline. On the other hand, the distribution of the Redmi 5A India sales by variant and sales channel was not revealed by Xiaomi. Promoted because the ‘Desh Ka Smartphone’ from Xiaomi, the Redmi 5A is the successor to the popular Redmi 4A.
The Redmi 5A was published in India on December 7, priced at Rs. 5,999 and Rs. 6,999 for its 2GB RAM and 3GB RAM versions, respectively. Soon thereafter, the 3GB RAM option became available offline also, with the price going up to Rs. 7,499. However, Xiaomi provided a Rs. 1,000 discount on the initial 5 million units of the foundation model, bringing its powerful cost down to Rs. 4,999. Additionally, Reliance Jio provided a cashback of Rs. 1,000 on the two variants. Buyers will need to buy a minimum recharge of Rs. 198 for 12 months to avail the cashback, which will make them eligible for 10 vouchers of Rs. 100 which may be redeemed while buying a recharge package.
The smartphone sports a 5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) screen, and is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC. In the camera section, the smartphone bears a 13-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.2 aperture, coupled with LED flash and PDAF on the back. On the front, the Redmi 5A has a 5-megapixel camera with an f/2.0 aperture. There is a committed microSD card slot (up to 128GB) as well.
Connectivity options on the smartphone include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS/ A-GPS, Infrared, a 3.5mm headphone jack, plus a Micro-USB port. Sensors on board comprise an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and a proximity sensor. It runs to a 3000mAh battery, with 5V/1A charging, rated to deliver up to 8 days of standby time, and 7 hours of video playback. It measures 140.4×70.1×8.35mm and weighs 137 g.
